MCINTYRE, Ga. — The reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo has been a ratings winner in recent weeks, capitalizing on redneck stereotypes and the oversized personality of a 6-year-old beauty pageant regular. But some who live nearby are concerned about the way their quiet pocket of central Georgia is being portrayed on the TLC series.

I have loved watching Honey Boo Boo. Reminds me of some folks I know from my corner of West Georgia. But I know that the creators of this show are setting up outlandish scenarios to exaggerate the "redneckiness" and then editing it to make it even more outlandish. I hope anyone watching a reality show on TV will keep in mind that the presence of a camera crew makes life anything but reality.

News, 'Here Comes Honey Boo Boo' Renewed: TLC Orders Additional Episodes, Three Holiday Specials

Here comes even more "Honey Boo Boo." TLC announced Wednesday that it was ordering additional episodes of the redneck reality show that stars seven-year-old former "Toddlers & Tiaras" star Alana Thompson and her family of crass, over-the-top characters.

That show is a hot dysfunctional white trash mess. While I realize it is representative of a segment of America, it really is not a segment that needs to be hailed. More dumbing down of America for profit.

I kinda like the show.

I find the characters quite likable.

Of course I've only seen one episode.

Yep. Create a show that celebrates bad manners, morbid obesity, ignorance and out of wedlock births and watch your ratings go through the roof.
Mama doesn't even know the paternity of one of her children. Guess it was a busy day in the dog park.

When are they going to have a show making fun of people on the West coast? They seem all to eager to have a reality TV show on TV poking fun of the south.
