I am building with this home builder. I'd like to know if any of you have finished a home with this builder recently (in 2013) and would like to share your experience. I would specifically like to know if you had any delays and how you handled them.

How is your building experience going? We are in the process of signing to build with Southland homes in cherokee county ga. We went to the Dawsonville office and they seem to be up and up. Any problems?

Over all the experience is okay. More often than not, they use decent to good material and decent contractors (they outsource the work). I specifically like their cabinet, trim, tile and exterior brickwork contractors. I think the costs are their biggest positive (I found them very reasonable). Time/schedule/communication is the biggest concern. It takes them long to respond and they don't share a schedule or follow up on time. Overall- I'd prefer southland and the experience of building on own lot to a cookie-cutter home. There is a lot of room for improvement though and hopefully the future customers will benefit from the new systemic improvements they are putting in place.

It's 2015 and we are in the process of potentially signing on with Southland Custom Homes in Marietta to build a home for us on land we purchased in Canton. Can anyone provide any insight regarding their past experience with this builder? How was the quality of the materials used for your build? Was it done on time? How much 'extra' did you have to spend over the original estimate you agreed to? Were they difficult to work with? How well did they work with the subcontractors they use? How well did they communicate with the home owners?
