Blame the Columbus government for that.

They all have. All of the major companies have donated to urban projects like the Riverwalk, Whitewater, the conversion of several mills into downtown residences, the expansion of The Springer Opera House, the rails to trails project that convered an old rail line into a paved bike path, etc. No we are not Greenville YET but we are moving in that direction. Another urban project is the conversion of BTW apartments into an urban mixed-use development. Look at what CSU has done for downtown. It's amazing. There are early 1000 students living downtown. Columbus is extremely lucky to have a large business community that helps to pump money into projects.

With has the 2nd largest corporate base in the state I believe. I think that it should be much larger and have more to offer than it does now. Something had to prevent that from happening...

It might have plenty, but not nearly as much as it should have with that type of corporate base.

All of the corporate headquarters in Greenville aren't located downtown, but they have a heavy influence on it.

These are all great! But what I think Mutiny is talking about is public/private partnerships where they go in and build. A majority of the stuff that was and is being built in Greenville's downtown is because of this. Things like low to mid-rise hotels, apartments, offices etc. with retail at the bottom.

Build it where? There's no where to build all that. Why do you think the Eagles & Phoenix Mills are being redeveloped into condos?
