We are looking at a move to the area (Reynolds Landing), and wondering where people send their kids to high school? Open to private schools..wondering if there are any charter schools? We only have a year left and I'm trying to find a challenging curriculum that is rated well. I've been reading about Westminster, John Milledge, Nathanael Greene... They are very small in comparison to our current school but that's fine if they are welcoming to new students. Any advice is appreciated!

Where are you moving from? There is a charter elementary school in the area.

I think you ought to wait until your child finishes high school (given that you only have one more year).

I would wait too. Which Westminster are you looking at? The one in Watkinsville would certainly fit the bill for academic challenge, much more than Nathanael Greene.

Yes it was Watkinsville. Also looking at Gatewood and Putnam Cty. My son is on board with the move if we find something; he is looking at colleges in the southeast.

Moving to Georgia before his senior year will allow him to establish residency and qualify for the HOPE Scholarship. If you're unfamiliar with it, that's the lottery-funded scholarship program that pays free tuition to public colleges and universities for any student that qualifies. It's an outstanding program and the best thing about living in Georgia.

I have friends who've attended John Milledge and it has a good reputation. I can't speak for the others.

Newsboy makes a good point, actually. The HOPE scholarship is a wonderful perk of living here. If your son does well on his SAT or ACT he can also get the Zell Millar Scholarship, which pays for even more. Another private school to look at would be Prince. It's larger than Westminster, but not as focused on academics.
