Hello, everyone. I will be relocating to Georgia from New Jersey. My daughter is currently in 8th grade. She attends A very good school here in NJ and I am trying to locate the Good school districts in Georgia. I am looking into the Lithonia, Decatur, Albany or Lawrenceville ( yeah I know what you are thinking! I'm not quite sure of the exact city in Georgia, but the move to the state is definite.

Are there any good Charter High Schools or private high schools in those areas? And which Public schools have good ratings and are good schools. I want to make the transition for her a good one, and place her from one good school to another, being that I am moving not for a job reason, or family etc. I have lived in New Jersey all of my 35 years and I have always wanted to live in the south and I desperately need a change. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

If I can ask, what HS in NJ is she coming in from? I moved down from NJ this past summer, so I'm pretty familiar with many of the schools up there, and may be able to point you in the right direction.

Columbus High School is always ranked in the top 5 for public schools. It was #1 recently.

She currently is in 8th grade at Link- A private school for 7th and 8th graders and she is doing very well and the school is great. So she will be entering High School in the fall of 2008. Previous post I mentioned interest in Albany, but that is not the case. I am leaning towards Alpharetta, College Park or Stockbridge. How are the public school districts in these areas? which areas have the best public schools? thanks again everyone!

More than 250 schools are receiving state awards for student achievement and academic improvement, Governor Sonny Perdue and State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox announced today.

Schools from all across the state were given the awards based on 2006-2007 performance on state curriculum assessments, the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) or Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT).

You're all over the place- why such an odd grouping of cities all around the metro?

Of the three, Alpharetta is the most upscale, and has the best schools. College Park is just north of the airport, and isn't an area that many people are dying to move to. Stockbridge is "OK", but nothing to write home about.

Have you looked at greatschools.net?

bobkovacs,

Do you think it might be beneficial to have one of those "stickies" for schools on the top of the main Georgia portion of the list?

There is so much good information in some of these threads about schools it seems like a shame that it's not immediately available to people who are looking for good schools (and isn't everybody?).

I think also that some people don't think to look on the Atlanta section if they are planning a move to the Atlanta metro area, so that maybe it might be good to have a sticky on the GEORGIA part of the list as well. Then people could look at the various sites on the sticky to rule in or out various locations and then post further questions

BTW, if you think it's an o.k. idea is there someone who could make the sticky? I have no clue how to do this myself.

Thanks -- while some of us are really happy to assist people who are interested in various areas in Georgia, we aren't necessarily familiar with schools.

Thanks,
zebbie

If you make a new post with some links to the best websites for school info, I'll turn it into a sticky for you.
