My husband and I will move to GA from TX. I will work in Rome and he will be in Atlanta. Which town should we live to accommodate better our work and lives? Thanks!

Well, Acworth will be more central to both, while Cartersville would be better for you and worse for him. Neither is going to be a very fun commute into Atlanta, though Acworth will be shorter.

You definitely have the better commute! What will you be doing in Rome? I have lived there twice, once as a college student and once as a real grownup! As Rome is a bit off the beaten path (no direct freeway access, which has been a bone of contention over the years), your drive will be lovely. Cartersville to East Rome is twenty to twenty five minutes, depending on red lights, with very little traffic via 411. Add on twenty to twenty five minutes for commute from Acworth, depending on location in Rome and time of day. Your poor husband has the nightmare commute. Where is the job located? Let us know and you will receive many suggestions. Acworth with a location close to I-75 is the fairest solution considering the two commutes. This will give you the plum for the Atlanta area -- a reverse commute. Remember that Acworth addresses are actually in four counties -- Cobb, Bartow, Paulding and Cherokee. You will want to stay close to the Glade Road Exit or Hwy 92 exit, so you will be in either Cobb or Cherokee. This will provide you with a mix of new subdivisions and a few selected older or historic homes within a mile or two of the freeway. In addition, there is an Xpress park and ride lot located at Hwy 92 and Lake Acworth Drive. This goes directly to Midtown and Marta. I have several neighbors who use it. Good luck!

Default Thank you for your suggestions!

I think since Acworth is closer to Atlanta, it will be better for him to commute and there should be less tranfic between Rome and Acworth. However, it seems that Cartersville is more convenient in terms of shopping and daily errands. Sigh...

Well, I live in Acworth and use the Xpress, but it only goes downtown so he'd have to be right off of Peachtree somewhere......

...Traffic starts at Wade Green, which is around exit 273

...it really depends where you live in Acworth...if you live on the West side of 41 you'll spend 15-20 minutes just getting to 75, east side 5-10 minutes to 75.....(exit 278)

.....if you live close to 75 in Cartersville (exits 283, 285, 288, 290) most likely 288 or 290 it's only an extra 10 minutes on the interstate, if you live farther away same problem.....

....it's really going to depend on where you're looking at in both areas

good luck

Smile People are nice here

Thank you all for very helpful suggestions. We haven't bought a house yet, so we don't know which county/town we will live. From gt6974a's reply, it seems there's not many differences between living in Cartersville and Acworth since tranfic starts from Wade Green. Thank you!

....Well there is a difference....but it depends on where you live and what time you leave so don't misinterpret me, make sure you understand.....

Living in Cartersville close to 75 (East of 41) is the equivalent of living in Acworth, West of 41.....if you live East of 41 in Acworth/Kennesaw it will make a difference....

....an extra 10-20 minutes every day, each way....will wear on you...don't be mistaken..

I do have a buddy at work that lives in North Bartow, exit 296 (White) then another 25+ miles (70 miles) but he gets in at 6 a.m. and leaves at 3 so no traffic.

If I go in on time (leave after 7) from exit 277 (30 miles) it stinks....50 min to 1:15 by car...if I go in late (after 9:30) it's 30 minutes....

...411 and 41 are a PITA in Cartersville these days so be careful.....

I have another friend that llives in Cartersville and commutes to Dalton while his wife commutes to Rome, not bad for them....

...I'd definately suggest you rent for 3 months before you decide....besides by that time home prices should be cheaper.
