Hi Everyone,

I moved to Atlanta over a year because of my job. I have an apartment right now in Norcross (Peachtree Corners) and I wanted to get some opinions on good up and coming areas since I'm in the market to buy a home since my lease is about to end very soon. I'm single, no kids even though I know school districts are an important factor especially considering resale. I work in the Perimeter area in Sandy Springs so I would prefer somewhere where I can keep my commute to under 1 hour (If that's even possible with this traffic down here) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!!

I would suggest a move to Mableton. The commute time to Sandy Springs is about 25-35 minutes. Mableton used to be the eye-sore of Cobb County. Most of it was horribly impovrished and most people would have never thought about buying a home there ten years ago. Now the area is booming with growth in all price ranges. The schools are not all that great yet but I think that will change as the area continues to change. You can buy a new townhome as low as in the mid 100s and new homes range from the low 200s to well over a million. I would try to buy on the east side of Mableton if possible towards the Chattahoochee River along Roads like Buckner, Pebblebrook, Queen's Mill, and Veteran's Memorial Hwy.(the main road in the area). New shopping centers are being built to serve the area and the home prices keep going up. My dad bought a home off Buckner Road in 2003 for $265,000 and already his home is worth $305,000. Mableton is growing so fast because of its proximity to downtown Atlanta(15min.) and Vinings(10mins.). Vinings is THE place to live in South Cobb County and the affluence of Vinings is rubbing off on Smyrna and Mableton. Buy in the area now before the home prices start to mirror that of Vinings proper.

Stvincent,

Thanks for the info. I had a co-worker mention Mableton previously since he lives in Austell. Do you know the area code for the east side of Mableton? I'll start my researching. Thanks

You're welcome! Mableton only has one zip code:30126. But the elementary school serving Mableton's east side is Harmony Leland. Moderator cut: Removed
