I absolutely love GA hope to retire somewhere in GA When we visited we loved the hospitality and the respect for military veterans. Savannah is a beautiful city.

We visited Atlanta a few yrs ago and went to underground Atlanta as well and were treated with great respect and no issues and folks were very helpful and nice to us. We rode the Marta into town from the airport and visited the GA aquarium, Coca Cola museum and several parks and downtown. We had a wonderful time and really enjoyed our stay

If you live in Marietta and friends are located in Stone Mountain the commute is thirty-five miles one way which means you will spend a lot of gas and time! This leads to another problem, there are plenty of Golddiggers, Moochers, Con-men and Bums attempting to survive off of your hard work! It's the Atlanta way when you have so many people moving to an area where they think everyone is making money and living large. When they get to the ATHell they have to survive, and they do so by finding Sugar Mamas, Sugar Daddies, or Married Men and Women. This is an environment where desperation prevails. Desperation for a job, a good contractor, a dedicated and honest husband or wife, or an honest good friend. I won't even begin to discuss the bitter and angry women who are often dumped for the next best deal, because the Golden Rule is for men to get a Wife with money and a home, and then get a Life so they keep groups of women on hand to bang after the wedding and for the long, long years of marriage! This is a problem everywhere, but it's simply a public joke in the ATHell! THAT'S ANOTHER STORY!

Here is one of the worst parts about moving to Georgia: New Title Tax is Unfair and Discriminatory - Peachtree Corners, GA Patch

I just moved from DC to GA with a leased car. I have 10 more payments before I have to return it to the dealership. Because of this genius law that GA lawmakers passed, I get a $1,200 "Welcome to Georgia" payment that I get to make to register my 2014 Toyota Rav4 in the state. Then, here's the best part, I get to pay that all over again when I get a new car in 10 months!

I noticed people saying that Athens and Madison are further than 1 hour from the Atlanta airport. When I search Madison to Atlanta airport directions on Google maps it's telling me 58 minutes with traffic, maybe I'm being naive in thinking that Google has an accurate estimate on that though? And yes Athens is further at about 1h30 travel time from the airport. I guess I should've stated that the 1 hour rule or "code" was more like a "guideline". 1h - 1h30 is fine. Trying to avoid the 2 hour mark especially.
I used to live in Madison. 58 minutes to the airport WITHOUT trafffic is very wishful thinking.

Yeah, well our main impetus for moving to Madison was to try our hand at house flipping. We did this in Seattle and got a great result there and thought we'd target Madison next. About 3 days after we put it on the market an older couple that owned one of the landmark houses wanted to downsize. They met our asking price. Yikes!
Right now we're renting my mother's old house in King City on SSI (I still own a quarter of it) from my siblings. I love the location. Madison is great, but was never really a long-term situation. I missed my marshes!

For now. My unit was being rented by a MD from Michigan (Michiganders apparently love STX). He was told my unit had the best northward view in the complex (looking out towards Buck Island); he fell in love with it and made a really good offer. I accepted.
AP, when next you consider a visit to STX, you really should check out Villa Madeleine in Teague Bay. There are plenty of villas available for rent, and I have nothing but high praise for the place:

Thanks, LD. We are planning a winter trip so I'll certainly look into this.
