Does anyone live aboard a houseboat in Georgia on inland waterways? I am looking for advice and info. I keep reading about a law in effect in 2012 that legalizes it in coastal waterways but not on inland waterways. I am looking to find forums and local information about marinas in GA. We currently live in upstate NY and we are wanting to move south where we can boat and enjoy the water year around. I am thinking my house is too big and am tired of taking care of a house I don't want to spent time at. Our summers are spent on the river and our house and yard get very little use for the maintaince it requires. I understand boats need maintaince but I'd rather spend my time on my boat then mowing my yard and cleaning my pool that I never use.
I am specifically looking at Lake Lanier or some western South Carolina Lakes (Hartwell, Keowee)

Lake Lanier is a US ACE managed property, so you would better served by contacting USACE for federal rules regarding houseboats on Lanier.

I understand your point of view, but I'd recommend against it.

The lakes here are large reservoirs used to keep the rivers flowing downstream during droughts. During extreme droughts the lakes can get really low and this makes many docks unusable, which could prove to be a major problem if you live on the boat.

It might not be what you had in mind, but a small cabin on a wooded, non-landscaped lot along a river or a lake sounds like it would fit the bill too.
