Hi Everyone!!
My husband is relocating for work in Jonesboro and we are now researching places to live. We have family in Newnan, Peachtree City, and Fayetteville. We would really like it if my husband didn't have to commute more than 45 minutes. Also, we would like the drive to visit our family to be no further than an hour AT MOST and we have a young daughter who will eventually start school so a great school district is SUPER important.
Can anyone offer any advice on where to begin our house buying search? We have browsed online at PTC, Fayetteville, and McDonough.
Oh! And our budget is around $240,000
Thank you all so much!

Any of the 3 cities you mentioned are pretty nice, just stay out of Clayton County. I've lived in McDonough for 15 years, and I like it except for the traffic.

Fayetteville sounds like the no-brainer option, very close to Jonesboro. Newnan and Peachtree City are nice, but you'd have a lot of traffic commuting to Jonesboro.

Clayton County is fine but schools will be the issue.Lake Spivey area is very nice and I think you can find a good elementary school. Its the High Schools that are all problematic as far as ranking go.
Fayette will be very expensive and you will find it more limited to find house in your buget or at least you will be right at you highest budget limit.

The most sought after areas on the southside based on top rated schools are:

1. Peachtree City-McIntosh or Starr's Mill High
2. Fayetteville-Starr's Mill or Whitewater High
3. Sharpsburg/ North Newnan-Northgate High
4. McDonough-Union Grove or Ola High schools.

Of these choices, I'd look in Fayetteville. Fayetteville is only about a 15-25 minute commute to Jonesboro. The east side of PTC would be about a 25-35 minute commute, but it may be tough to find a house in PTC for 240K since the average home price right now is around 400K. In southern Fayetteville, houses average around 350K, but you can still find some options around 240K. The most sought after schools in Fayetteville are the Starr's Mill & Whitewater attendance areas in southern Fayetteville.

You could also look in the Northgate area of Sharpsburg around the Canongate area. The commute from there would be about 30-35 minutes. The homes are more affordable than PTC or southern Fayetteville, but the Northgate cluster is the most sought after area in Coweta County and has similar test scores as Whitewater. It's also only about 10-15 minutes from Peachtree City and 15 minute from Newnan.
