anyone tired of georgia? (Atlanta, LaGrange: crime, home, transfer)

I am a Tennessee native, but have lived all around. I used to dream about coming to "Hot Lanta" and now that I've been here for three years, I'm running out of steam. The traffic is a mess, but for the most part, I have bared it. The public transportation system, lack of highway space, the "good 'ol boys" mentally, lack of a coast line and overcast, rainy days have given me about all I can take.

I've been here since '03, and have spent most of my time here in school. The cost of living is decent, but the pay sucks!! As a nursing student, and hopefully one day a practitioner, I'm looking to head out of here soon. I'm plain bored.

I'm thinking of heading out west in a year or so; maybe California. I love warm wheather, 300 days of sunshine, beaches, mountains and never running out of things to do. I'm already over the Cali cost of living sticker shock, so go there. More of a concern than that would be missing my church, friends and family, but I need a new start.

Anybody else feeling supressed and suffocated in the ATL?

Yes. But that's because I'm from Southern California. It's a whole different world out west and even then, there's a pretty significant difference between Northern and Southern CA Good luck with whatever you decide to do but take into consideration that if you DO go, you're either going to love it or hate it. Those seem to be the two reactions I've got from EVERYONE I've met who've moved to CA. If you end up in the "love it" half, be prepared to end up completely spoiled.

And, in regard to your traffic comment: you haven't even seen traffic until you've hit interstate 5 or 405 anywhere between L.A. and the mexican border during rush hour. Seriously. On the upside, the traffic generally moves a bit more smoothly than in Atl. On the downside... it's a bazillion times more crowded and gods forbid the merest sprinkling of rain. Then, chaos abounds. *laugh*

All in all though, it's a WONDERFUL place to live and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Not tired of Georgia, just tired of where I'm living in Georgia. I was planning to move in 2008 to Carrollton.

Where are you living in Georgia? And why in the world are you moving to Carrollton? Just curious.

I was born and raised in Atlanta and had to move out by age 25. It was too big, too expensive, the traffic was a nightmare, etc. I was very stressed out and had to leave. I moved to SC and life has been good since! I've been here over 8 years now and I don't miss anything about ATL! I do go back home and visit realitives, but I am glad to call SC my home now.

My husband and I moved to Atlanta 6 years ago and can't wait to move away! We are both from Florida so have decided to move home. I can't stand the traffic, the crime, the lack of pedestrian areas, lack of coastline, southern mentality etc.

I'm attending University of West Ga there as a transfer. It's there something wrong with Carrollton I need to look out for?
I'm now residing in LaGrange for 22 years & sadly it's a DEAD end street for me. Just need a new location.

It's not anything wrong necessarily with Carrollton, I guess it depends on what you want. If you're going to school there, I suppose that's reason enough. It's just nothing there, it's a hick town with not much going on and you'll have a nice little drive to Atlanta if you want to go into the city for any reason. Good luck with that.

Can see your point and not.
The coastline is second to none. Granted, you cannot get good Grouper in GA unless you luck out at the frozen section at Costco

Traffic? Mixed bag. I can remember countless hours sitting on 75 / 95 / 4/ and even the TP during Snowbird season in Florida. I travel with my job to FL along with the rest of the East, Florida has gotten so bad in my opinion I just go into West Palm or Ft. Myers now so I can at least make it to the main road out of the airport.

Crime! Yeah Atlanta city is scary. Most know my opinion of Atlanta's crime issues and the city leadership, but Miami, Orlando, and even many parts of JAX is no walk in the park.

Southern Mentality? Heck, I'm still trying to find a Southerner in Florida and Georgia. I'm a WV native and so far out of everyone I meet I seem to be the most "southern" by native home than most. Seems everyone around my area is from FL via NY, NY, NJ, CA, and /or another country all together

Ummm and you want to move BACK to Florida to avoid the things you don't like about Atlanta when in fact Florida is just as bad if not worse in some areas. Trust me, alot has changed here in Florida in the past 6 years... Alot has changed in the past 12 months really.
