The company intends to hire the first 100 employees fairly quickly and hopes to eventually have up to 500 employees, said Senior Vice President Jack Egan during a visit to the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce.
Egan said the company chose to put its newest call center in Rome because of its people and potential workforce.
“Eight to 10 years ago and before that you had to look at technology and fiber, sometimes people were second because you had to have the infrastructure,” Egan said. “Now we can get the infrastructure anywhere. (Now) first and foremost it’s people, second it’s people, and then it would be a building or infrastructure.”
Andrea Schafer, regional communications and public relations director, said they look for employees with problem-solving skills and adaptability.
“If you’re open to learning, there is a great opportunity,” Egan said.
Chamber of Commerce President Al Hodge said the first contact with SYKES came during a Partners in Prosperity-financed recruiting trip to Montreal last year.
SYKES has already received a building permit for interior renovations at the former Dell-Perot Systems building.
The company plans a large recruiting fair Aug. 17 at The Forum in downtown Rome.
The fair will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Egan said people can visit JOBS IN ROME, GA AT SYKES to get information and fill out initial applications.
He said some job offers are likely to be extended to applicants on that day.
