Slight deviation, but as someone who started out his career with computers in the 90's, the field is WAY over-saturated. Terrible compensation at the entry levels, Massive competition for those underpaid positions, and those jobs demand that one person do the work of 2~3 (high stress, poor quality work, unhappy clients, it's an endless circle). Even as the head of a Tech department with a boss who saw the need for a healthy tech budget, it was very difficult to get that budget once the board had its way...

I left the field in 2009 because of how bad it had all gotten. I'd caution you that a BS/BA in CS holds nearly no value over you basic high school graduation, so if you insist on that route do it as Cheaply as possible. Sucks to make huge school loan payments on minimum wage pizza delivery job earnings. It may be that most fields are this way (I know it's true for Pharmacy too, new-grads are making roughly half of what my wife did as a new-grad a decade ago, heck, she's earning less now than a decade ago), but you should at least hear the hard truth about the path you're considering.

If you want to have a good career for the rest of your life, you might want to consider a trade (electrician/plumber/welder). They are in such high demand that you can pretty much live anywhere you'd like after ~7 years (that's how long till you can become a "Master Electrician").

I'm sorry that things didn't work for but I'm going to take my chances because everyone does not have the same path as everyone else. Thanks for your comment though.

I'ma throw out Emory as somewhere to look. It has a good reputation in the computing field. Granted, it ranked (28th) well below Georgia Tech (3rd) in the nation, but it was still well above UGA (136) and GSU (131).
