Looking to relocate from the Big Apple to the peach state! I currently live in Westchester County suburbs. Married with two kids, (girls) five and seven. We live in a wonderfully diverse town with good schools and low crime. I've been doing a lot of research and have been leaning towards Suwannee or Lawrenceville. Being an African American and Hispanic blended family, we are looking to move to a safe, multicultural, and diverse area. A place where people here are educated, well rounded and accepting. I would love any feedback anyone can offer. Thanks so much!

Welcome to Metro Atlanta!

You would get far more insightful responses if you were to post in Atlanta Forum, but this one is good too.

Gwinnett County is a fine choice for the things of importance to your family. We are a very diverse county of well-educated, welcoming families. But most of the county lives, well, in the county rather than a city like Lawrenceville or Suwanee. You're mentioned schools, so that would be a better place to start since most real estate agent websites allow you to search by school too. Collins Hill and North Gwinnett High Schools are the better schools that primarily serve the area in and around Suwanee while Archer, Brookwood, Dacula and Mountain View have historically performed better in areas around Lawrenceville. A lot of the information that you're looking for can also be found by researching the schools. The areas offer a rich quality of life too with free movies, festivals, fairs, rapid transit, national food stores and more.

Hope that helps. And, again, welcome to the ATL.

Important question:

Will you and/or your spouse's place(s) of work be in an area that is relatively close to Suwanee or Lawrenceville?

This is a really important question because the traffic in the Atlanta metro region (like in other major metro regions like the Tri-State area, etc) can be a bear on many days. You don't want to end up with a commute to and from work that might be longer than you might like it to be.
