OMG. I was pulled over by a cop on I-95 in Georgia for failing to move over. He was on the side of the road giving a ticket to someone. He spotted me and waved me over. I should have kept going, but no, I moved over. Well the ticket is going to cost $705. Can this be right? Seven hundred Five Dollars?

One piece of advice: don't directly contradict yourself in court like you did in this short paragraph.

43 states have move over laws.

You can always go to court. I got one that was going to be $500, went to court and the judge dropped it to $150.

Sounds about right when the safety of the officer is in question. It seems the only way people learn is with harsh punishments to their pocket books. You're doing everyone else a favor by relating the story, so kudos to you.

You didn't move over. Pay the $. What's so hard about accepting responsibility?

You should have kept going? Another bad decision. $705 would have seemed easy then...

The law permits vehicles to slow down that aren't able to move over. It doesn't stop officers from writing it anyways, mostly because there's no set speed for "slow down." It was deliberately left vague as a money-maker. You don't know that the OP didn't slow down.

I don't know the details of your case...that being said, the law is part safety part money maker. Go to court if you can and plead your case. You may get a few hundred knocked off. It basically comes down to what it's worth to you to fight it. Cost of life...sometimes stuff happens.
