How is the Georgia Coast for walking and exploring? Are there beaches along the coast for walking. I read that most of the Georgia Coast in not accessible to the public. Jekyl Island and Saint Simons Island are the only places where the public can access the ocean /beach ...is this true?

I also read that coastal Georgia has a lot of gators and skeeters (what is a skeeter....some sort of bug I am guessing) .... is this true?

Thank you.

Tybee Island and Cumberland Island also have publicly accessible beaches. There are probably a few other places as well.

It is true that a lot of the coast is protected or privately owned areas though.

Sapelo Island is accessible by boat , ferry and plane. It is a lovely place to visit and stroll the beach. There are places to stay such as the Sapelo Birdhouses and a few rent by owners on the island. It gives you the felling of being in a bygone era when you are there.
