Why not include Columbus, Augusta, Savannah, Albany, and Valdosta into your CSA?!

Columbus isn't out of the realm of possibilities when you consider the metro's continuing march down the I-85S corridor. Also consider that the distance to the airport isn't much further from Columbus and Macon than it is to exurban communities like Canton, Woodstock, Cumming and Gainesville; I would venture that distance to Hartsfield-Jackson would be a determining factor for establishing a CSA.

Pie-in-the-sky wishful thinking. And whether Warner Robins' MSA should be joined with Macon's is a different ball of wax. (They were formally separated in 2002 because WR has developed a separate economy around a core city, with fewer links to Macon.) The OMB requires fairly substantial commuting patterns to form a common MSA, and much looser patterns to form a CSA. I think a mega-CSA of Atlanta-Athens-Macon is decades away, and a rejoined Macon-WR metro is doubtful. Perhaps you will see both in your lifetime, but it won't be soon.

There's still a noticeable drop off in the development after you go south of Locust Grove on I-75 South.

BUT, if you exit that "Atlanta South" Travel Center in Jackson, it feels like you only drive a few miles before you see the Monroe County sign, so I dont know.

The key area for this to happen to me is more development between that Travel Center and Forsyth in Northern Monroe County.

Atlanta has probably reached its limit in terms of outward growth. It would be much more difficult for any other metro such as Macon to even be included in the CSA even though they have adjacent counties. In fact I would say it is highly unlikely that any other Georgia metros would be included in Atlanta's CSA. In this map of MSA's and CSA's, you can see that the "urbanized" (darker green) area of Atlanta and Athens are relatively close where there is a large gap between Atlanta and Macon.

Another thought. If I-85 had been routed through Athens, it would probably quite a bit larger being home to the state's flagship university and the given economic activity along the corridor.
