We currently live in the Savannah area. I am from Connecticut and miss the cooler weather and the beautiful mountain views. I was thinking some of the places in north Georgia might be just as awesome, but with less snow and taxes. My husband and I have a 17 month old, so schools will be important within the next few years. I am a teacher, so I can go pretty much anywhere that is hiring. We love going out and doing things: festivals, parks, apple/berry picking, museums, historic things etc. Pretty much anything other than beachy stuff, we're not really beach people. I'd love a sort of small town (if only Star's Hollow was a real place), but close enough to Atlanta for a day trip. Not crazy expensive (I'm a teacher after all), and with schools where I will not have to worry about the things I would have to worry about if he went to school in Savannah. It sounds like I'm asking a lot, but I know it is out there! Please help me find it!!!

Places in in the mountains to consider: Dahlonega, Dawsonville, Ellijay, and Blue Ridge.

Places near the mountains to consider: Commerce, Toccoa, the northern exurbs of metro ATL.

From one Connecticut-born transplant to another, welcome to Georgia.
