Hi Everyone,
We are a married gay couple living in a uber conservative town in NE NC currently. We are planning a move in the next 2 years when our son finishes high school. We have been reading a lot about how "gay friendly" Blue Ridge is and were wondering if that is actually the case or if the articles are just to bump LGBT tourism. We like small town living and the mountains and are considering looking into the Blue Ridge area. Any information is appreciated.

Blue Ridge has many gays and lesbians living around the area. Some are summer homes from those that live in Atlanta. I haven't seen any issues of anti gay in public while visiting there and it has become more tolerant in past few years. Still I don't think you can expect to see a Pride parade etc. the area still is conservative for the most part. I would describe as tolerant, in which you won't be harassed by most. You should visit is very nice

The gay community has been quietly integrating into a lot of north Georgia communities for years. The towns I hear mentioned most often are Blue Ridge, Hiawassee, Ellijay, Jasper, Dahlonega and Clayton.

Why are gays flocking to this small Georgia town to vacation?
