Saw your post in the NC forum as well. Have lived both places. Been in Georgia the last 20 and if I had to choose between the 2 states, I would definitely pick NC

I'm mostly concentrating on SC and NC but I saw a gorgeous home in GA that's for sale. So, I was just wondering if GA should be in the mix of places I'm researching.

Alabama has some stunning places as well. Deserved or not, being called the Alabama of anything tends to be a negative.

All that being said, I wouldn't live anywhere else in the south except for Atlanta. I love big cities. Too conservative for my tastes. It is a great asset that Georgia has it all. But the OP doesn't like big cities so again I will say that the OP won't miss out on too much based on what they prefer if they chose Alabama over Georgia.

Edit: Meant to write that other areas outside of Atlanta are too conservative for my tastes.
And conservative is what I'm looking for. I'm not judgmental at all; I feel people can live any way they want to. But, you get those that think that if I disagree with them, I'm wrong. For my personality, that's a challenge to get into a debate, things get heated, and I get stressed. Just not worth the headache. LOL

Hmmm. , and I seriously have no clue as to why liberals believe guns kill people. None of my guns have killed a single soul. Just sayin'.

I’ll chime in. I am a Liberal and I own guns but I do believe that those with mental issues or violent records should have restrictions to guns.

I always find it interesting when talking to people from both sides that they have this picture that you are either pro all guns for everyone if conservative and no guns for anyone if liberal. The majority are in between and when we stop looking at both sides as caricatures then maybe we will learn to live together and move this country forward

I have NO problem with people being vetted before getting a permit to buy a gun. I think it's an excellent idea. I don't think people who have a history of mental instability should have a gun.

As soon as people realize that it's not a gun problem, it's a people problem we can start to figure out how to really stop these massacres.

I've been thinking about your original post. In my humble opinion, each Southeastern state has much to crow about. Alabama has beautiful coastal beach towns along the Gulf, Lake Martin is exceptionally pretty, Birmingham is a wonderful mid-sized city and Huntsville is very attractive. Tennessee has the beautiful Smoky Mountains and its cities are very manageable and nice. North Carolina's mountains and Outer Banks are all breathtakingly gorgeous and you cannot shake a stick at South Carolina's Charleston, Pawley's Island and other coastal areas. So, I honestly cannot say that Georgia is any "better" than any other Southeastern state. It is a beautiful area with so much to offer from the coast to the mountains, quaint Southern towns, and the metropolis of Atlanta. Heck, I simply love the South!

I think is partly both. Yes the people’s mental health and violence past is the big driver but also the easy access for those people to get guns that are meant to cause mass casualties in a short time is also part of the problem. I have a gun for protection and while I’m not a hunter I know friends that are an AR-15 is built for mass casualties. What purpose does it serve and why would someone want one. To me permit for that gun should be more scrutinized than a handgun and sadly in many states is easier to get than a handgun.

So yes mental health, violence of an individual is main driver, but we also need to look at access to these types of guns.

This is not a conservative vs liberal argument is a common sense issue.

Atlanta offers a nice moderate paradise from its surrounding conservative state. Outside of Atlanta, Georgia is like anywhere else. Not too bad but nothing to brag about.
Those of us who live in Savannah will beg to differ VERY LOUDLY!

Where did I ever say I believe guns kill people?

People with certain problems shouldn't be allowed to purchase guns. The inability to recognize that legal access to guns by some who shouldn't have that access is actually a problem is just mind-boggling to me.
