It looks like the discussions about SSI are several years old now.
Now that SSI has suffered back to back Hurricanes, is everyone still elated to own a house there?

...I doubt you'd find many people who bought a house at the beach and didn't realize hurricanes are a constant possibility. The market is still pretty great on SSI, so even if someone wanted out now that they knew reality, their house would sell pretty quickly.

Additionally, it is not as if SSI suffered crippling damage. More inconveniences with evacuations and such than actual damage for most residents. There hasn't been a major hurricane strike on the Golden Isles in more than a hundred years.Until there is, most will not give it much thought. Even then, memories are short and a few years after a major storm, life returns to normal for most coastal areas.

I'm relocating to a hurricane prone area. Not worried about it. That's what insurance is for.

I would say that Georgia's coast, being further west than any other point on the US Atlantic coast, is in one of the best positions to weather hurricanes. The last two did their thing, but not substantial damage enough to make coastal living less attractive for anyone I know in the area. The step sister's home and grounds came away unscathed for the most part (western marsh side near Epworth). Her father-in-law's home on one of the tidal creeks on the mainland side suffered more from flooding than they did on the island.

Heading down to Ono Island, Alabama. I did my darndest to get my wife to move to Blue Ridge, Georgia, but, as you can imagine, she won!

Oh no!

Haha, gotta look that up. Thought I would know that name. Have been to Dauphin Island on the west side of the bay and Gulf Shores on the east side. I am guessing its on the Baldwin County side...

Well, AP, that hardly sucks. I think you just might have an amazing life there, based on what I know about it. A happy little enclave, as it were.
