Our cell phone reception in Blairsville is scarey-calls dropping, and once you are out of the neighborhood headed toward town it begins to pick up again-usually near McDonalds we start to get decent reception. In an emergency this will be not so good in our area. Any recommendations on a good smart phone that might have better reception than our Galaxy phone? Considering I Phone if it can get better reception for the area. But maybe its just that the trees are blocking the existing towers in our area? Land line phone may be the only option if we are just stuck in the dead zone.

Blairsville has clear signals most places. It's not the phone, it's the tower. If you want good service try a landline or cable. If you're back in the trees - well there's your problem. I lived up on the GA-TN-NC line where I had to go out in the pasture to get any kind of signal.

Different phone isn't going to make much difference.

If you have a normal carrier though you should be able to make wifi calls at home with no issues. Just make sure your phones are connected to your WiFi.

Has anyone tried a cell phone booster? A friend recommended it but they are expensive so wondered if others had any success with boosters?

Yes, trees many many trees. We are clearing some off due to rotting in the stumps so hoping this will help some with reception but there are still lots of trees in neighboring properties around us. Nearest cell tower per the map is about a little over a mile away but I guess the trees create the dead zone around us.

Yep. In Blue Ridge we had a cell phone booster for AT&T. Worked great and solved our around-the-house connection issues. If I recall, it was $70.

Good to know. We just worry if there is an emergency and can't call out. We will look into the booster for the house. Thanks so much

Just wander into an AT&T store, tell them you have no service, and they'll set you up. Once we got the device to our house, it took about 5 minutes to get it up and running. As for 911 calls, you program your device (online) with your home address, so that address is transmitted to the 911 operator when you make an emergency call. It's really pretty nifty.

That sounds great and just what we need. Thanks so much
