I found a nice home great for retirement off Hicks rd in Toccoa Ga. When I look at the satelite picture of the area, I see what looks to be hog farming plants. Quite a few in that area. I was thinking the house was under priced and wondering if this is why. Can anyone tell me about this.. I don't want to contact a realtor until I'm more sure of the area I want to be. Anything concerning environmental disasters would be great to know!

Thank you..

If what you are seeing are long narrow metal-roofed buildings about 400-500 feet long, those are chicken houses. The noise and the odor are only bothersome within about half a mile downwind. Otherwise, you'll barely notice.

The price on that property is probably low because there isn't a ton of demand that far out of town, or the structure isn't in great shape. You haven't seen it in person, though, have you?

I lived near a chicken farm once. During the summer when it got hot the smell and flies were awful. I lived about a mile or so from the farm. Never again.
