It has begun.

Granted, these aren't the largest production companies... but they're not insignificant, either.

If Marvel Studios takes a stance, it could be the beginning of the end.

Christine Vachon, chief executive officer of Killer Films; David Simon, creator of "The Wire" and "The Deuce" who heads Blown Deadline Productions; and Mark Duplass of Duplass Brothers Productions have come out in opposition to a newly signed law that would ban abortions in the state if a fetal heartbeat can be detected.

This is a great step forward. None of these, however, have shot in Georgia. Hopefully other studios will step up and support women's rights to body autonomy.

Well, this was inevitable, and probably the desired effect by the law's sponsors.

Oh well, elections have consequences.

Let the chips fall where they may.

I guess Marvel's hands are tied for now. The MPAA is taking a wait-and-see approach to see if the law is reversed. Since Disney is an MPAA member, Marvel probably has to fall in line with this.

Even though I'm pro-choice, I think it would extremely interesting to see what would happen if Roe v. Wade was overturned. All the hillbilly states would ban abortion while the progressive states would leave it alone. Can you imagine how many companies would have to pull out of the hillbilly states because women and progressives would refuse to live there?

We could be witnessing the beginning of the rust belting of the sun belt!

Unfortunately these days, for people who want to live in an affordable and economically vibrant but tolerant location, there aren't many options. We're only given the choice of:

*Living in a crime-infested, impoverished hellhole (Rust Belt cities and states)

*Living in a place where your entire check goes to housing payments and taxes (progressive states like CA, NY, MA and WA)

*Living in a place where the social views are stuck in the 1800s (most states south of the Mason-Dixon line)

The question, what type of compromise will people make? Will it be affordability, economic vitality or social tolerance?

Good riddance. Quality over quantity any day. And I seriously doubt any company is going to make a decision based on this anyways. Companies are driven by shareholders, who are driven by money. If it makes the most financial sense to film here, they will despite any kind of outrage.

I think you are vastly underestimating the size of the soapbox actors and other players have to stand on.

Do you really think Marvel would shoot here if Robert Downey Jr. decided to go on the talk show circuit and make a big deal out of it? He's not in the picture anymore... .but Brie Larson or Scarlett Johansson could. Don Cheadle already signed a letter protesting the law.

Republicans get a twofer on this one: restricting what women can do with their bodies AND killing jobs. Plus a bonus of once again making Georgia (and by extension, Atlanta) the laughing stock of the country.
