Most of Georgia will be humid. It's not as bad in the North Georgia Mts. The Central Valley of CA is pretty dry, so yeah it will be a bit of a shock at first.

I would suggest keeping an eye out for openings at the Carl Vinson VA Hospital in Brunswick. It too is on the coast and neighboring communities like St Simon's Island, Woodbine or St Mary's are nice options and low/lower crime.

Check the Smelliest Cities in Georgia thread. There is something there about the St Mary's stench. Also Brunswick. I don't know either place ... I just remember seeing the thread.

This has been addressed countless times in this forum, but I'll reiterate *sigh*.

There hasn't been a stench in either city for some years now, thanks to EPA-mandated refinements in the pulping process. About the only by-product coming out of the smokestacks these days is steam.
These is some fecundity at low tide in the marshes during hot weather, but that's about it.

You will LOVE it here in the Peach state! I too would consider Richmond Hill (Savannah westside suburb) or Macon/ Warner Robins first (they are adjacent) because either way you would enjoy Houston County Schools which are well regarded in Central Georgia and commute either to Macon or Warner Robins easily.

Really, all of Georgia has a lovely four season climate with the Savannah area (Southeast Georgia) definitely being the place where "summer comes early and stays late" relative to Macon/ Warner Robins's Central Georgia location. Yes. the ENTIRE State of Georgia IS humid, compared to your present Central Valley California location, but there is no where here in Georgia that makes it to the century mark (100 degrees plus) like y'all often have in Central California every summer. Sometimes years pass between 100 degree readings down here. However, it often stays in the upper 80's and 90's with high humidity all summer down here. As a native, I don't find that too hard to take as long as you find a yard with some shade and, of course, have central air conditioning like most every home has down here. ;0)

Really, you might like Central Georgia (Macon/ Warner Robins) better, since it gets much better fall color, usually starting around early November, than you get along the coast (Richmond Hill).

That's good to know ... so why the other thread, I wonder?

During one year of my life every place I lived or visited had a paper mill.

I survived and got used to it.
