Georgia drivers are among the worst in the nation when it comes to tailgating, a new study shows.

Insurify, a web site for auto insurance quotes, analyzed tailgating violations nationwide. Georgia was the second-worst state, with 45 drivers cited for tailgating per 10,000 motorists. That was second only to Idaho, with 76 drivers cited per 10,000 motorists.
Though this is based on citations and not observations, I believe it. It infuriates me how often I'm driving in the center or center-right lanes on an Atlanta freeway and someone's righting my tail. Go to the left, dammit, you've got more lanes over there!

The only thing this "study" proves is that Georgia's law enforcement is obsessive when it comes to tailgating

They don't do enough. It's against the law to tailgate. I've lost track of all the idiots that have tailgated me while I'm not in the left lane and I'm going well over the speed limit.

Georgia drivers in general just suck. Not moving over to the right when a car approaches them from behind, tailgating in the right lane, running red lights, not using signals when necessary, etc, etc...

I found tailgating in Atlanta to be epidemic; usually it was a punishment exacted on me for following the speed limit.
I don't miss that aspect of Atlanta life at all.

No, they’re just slow. Midwestern drivers generally aren’t that bad. At least not compared to southern drivers.

Yeah I guess your right as it relates to the farmers and rural drivers... they create a whole other set of problems. I should have said Minneapolis drivers that draft and bump like NASCAR drivers and are even known to point long-barreled pistols if you don’t get out of the left lane to their liking.

Florida tops them all. I saw a man with a veteran's hat - a WWII vet - driving in the left hand lane going 35 miles an hour with the right turn signal on, and no turnoff for at least 10 miles.

And then there are the "Jesus is my copilot" drivers. Not necessarily with the bumper sticker, but they just pull out into traffic without looking, assuming that someone up in heaven is looking after their safety.
