My husband and myself are looking to relocate to Valdosta Georgia and need to know if our family would be accepted. My family is from Georgia and we moved to Miami when I was ⁷. My husband is from Jersey. I didn't see all of the racial issues until I visited NC. I always wanted to move back to Georgia but with everything I read online, its keeping me from making the jump. I just want out of Florida and be someplace where my family will be safe. We have 2 small children and haven't had a real issue in the 11 years we have been together in Pinellas county. Just small things like people not wanting to rent to us. Please help! I want off this island.

Greetings from a mixed race woman engaged to a white (and quite redneck) man. We currently live in NC but are relocating out West - NorCal or perhaps the SoCal desert. Southerners are typically more racist than most, next are probably Midwesterners. It doesn't help that your relationship is one that's more looked down upon by Southern racists the most. My fiance's family is rather racist, though the younger generation aren't as bad as the older. His late aunt only dated Black men & could never bring them around her family at all. My fiance's late father was very racist, and now 3 of his adult kids are in relationships with Blacks. I think they only accept me due to my light skin tone and appearance - when his half sister dated a dark skinned Black guy, it drove her father nuts. The atmosphere in the South where interracial couples are concerned is not that accepting among the middle aged & older. It's a very conservative region where progressiveness is frowned upon as 'liberal' & 'far left'. Georgia won't be any better than NC, believe it. Good luck on your move, wherever you choose to go.

If you're living in the city of Valdosta itself you won't be looked down upon. I'm a college student at VSU and I notice more interracial couples in South Georgia than I did in Atlanta. You might run into issues in the more rural areas.
