Even Augusta is not gay friendly and it is probably 5 times the size of Rome. With the exception of metro Atlanta, Athens and Savannah, The rest of Georgia is very much an ultra conservative red state. We used to always say that without metro Atlanta, Georgia would basically be another Mississippi or Alabama

I guess we're getting into a the weeds of personal opinion or whatever, but I really don't think many gay people would think Augusta is not gay friendly. It has a well established Pride parade and there's the fairly famous Parliament Resort in the middle of town.

The days of Atlanta, Athens, and Savannah being the only gay friendly cities in the state are years behind us. All of the larger cities in the state are plenty gay friendly, if gay friendly means gay couples are out in public places and don't get harassment or even second looks. Even some of the smaller cities, like Blue Ridge, have become very gay friendly.

Columbus literally elected a glorified Roy Moore (Josh McKoon) 4 times.

Well established? Hardly. For a city its size it is still a fairly hostile place for gay people. If a gay couple dared hold hands in a public place they would be harassed.

Arrow Please join us in Rome!

I hope you and your family are still considering Rome. My partner and I have lived as out gay men for most of our relationship (10+ years) and have been welcomed by conservative and liberal alike. Our friend group is very diverse, mostly straight — but there is indeed a gay community here. Please feel free to DM me — would love to tell you about our great city.
