I raised my children in Ohio, and now I live in Georgia. Georgia schools are very low ranking compared to the north. I never once thought my kid’s schools weren’t providing an adequate education. Here, those who can afford it, send their kids to private school.

I have no complaints at all having raised four children in Atlanta. Seems like a darn good place to have a family, IMHO.

Ohio????? Seriously?????

Explain how a state that takes education seriously has schools shut down for months for lack of funding? It happened in a number of districts in the state in 1970-71 and again around 1990.

I can only judge from my personal experience for my own children and grandchildren. Their public education was stellar, as well as the extra curricular programs available to them, even though they were in different areas in Ohio.

One difference between the places I lived and the GA schools, is that the school levies had to be voted on by the residents. Here in the Savannah, GA area, the school board tells the county how much they want, and the county says, “sure, here you go.” The abundance of money does not make the schools better.

My youngest child went to the Cloverleaf School District in Ohio. It was a rural, relatively poor area. They came very close to receivership, but barely dodged the bullet. Still, despite the belt tightening, year after year, the schools turned out graduates that went on to prestigious colleges. It was because the parents gave a ****, and participated.

My grandchildren went to Centerville, OH schools. High property taxes, super great sports programs, and a park in every neighborhood.

I do not know which districts you are talking about, but it was not my experience.

You’re in Coastal Georgia? Maybe there but in North Fulton I find the schools to be excellent and easily on par with good school districts on Long Island, which cost 3-4x per student than in GA.
