What are the 10 largest cities in Georgia (when including zip codes/unincorporated areas)?

I'd guess somewhere like Marietta and Decatur would become 2 and 3 after Atlanta.

When the entire mailing area is included, the 10 largest cities in Georgia are: Atlanta, Marietta, Lawrenceville, Columbus, Augusta, Decatur, Macon, Savannah, Cumming and Athens.

And as an honorable mention, Gainesville appears to be in a not-too-distant 11th place.

Actually Alpharetta and Sandy Springs would outrank Columbus and Augusta if using zip codes

It's Interesting but often arbitrary. USPS sets up individual POs mostly for the convenience of USPS. A specific zip code prefix might or might not ”control” areas we'd associate with a larger city. Some very small independent muncipalities still have their own post office, while others don't (or lost it due to consolidation).

Since the latest census. Augusta's population has been stagnant for the past 25 years. Columbus grew at a much faster rate over the last decade and surpassed Augusta in the latest census.

This is why people assume Marietta feels larger than 60,000 people. The city feels much larger because of the unincorporated areas...probably around 300,000 people honestly.

Yep. The entire area with a Marietta mailing address (which includes no fewer than 7 standard mailing zip codes, is served by about 9 public high schools, and encompasses a land area of about 140 square miles) appears to be inhabited by 302,309 residents as of a most recent count (presumably the 2020 Census).
