So you're going to base your decision to move to Atlanta on trolling activity. Excelsior. That in and of itself is suspect.

Do not move to Conyers, especially if you have children!! My husband and I both grew up around that area (actually him more than me. But I grew up in neighboring Henry County, and moved to Conyers when I was 16) and I can tell you with absolute certainty that it's gone WAY downhill from how it was when we were growing up. We finally decided to leave that area completely in January of this year and after much research we decided to move to Kennesaw (Funny that Conyers and kennesaw are the areas you mentioned). While the COL is a little higher here in Kennesaw it is WAY worth it! This area compared to south of Atlanta is like night and day! We have a 7 year old daughter and the difference in schools here is amazing! My daughter is even happier about going to school and they offer so many extracurriculars. During the last few years the crime in Conyers has increased astronomically! Our house was broken into, we had to call the cops 3 times last year due to gunshots right outside our home in the middle of the night (and we lived on a main road, not subdivision and we had 9 acres), an old lady 2 houses down from us had masked men kick her door in at night, we had fugitives hide in the woods at my mother in laws property 1 mile away (she had to leave work to come home and open all of their gates to let a mass group of officers in, with guns drawn, to search for a fugitive), the schools have all dropped in ranking dramatically, I could go on and on with this. It's just bad, and only getting worse! Oh, one big one that somehow I forgot to mention, when my daughter was in PreK there was a shooting right outside the front door of her tiny school. There were visible holes in the side of the building. 2 people were shot.

To sum up my extreme dislike of what my hometown has become Ill just say, STAY AWAY FROM CONYERS OR ANYWHERE WITHIN A 30-45 MINUTE DRIVING RANGE SOUTH OF ATLANTA. I do not know much about anything south of Coweta County. All I can say from my own experience is to stay away from any county from Fulton to Coweta. There are a few decent areas in Coweta and Fayette has some excellent areas so those are the only exceptions. Everywhere else is either gone to crap or soon will be.

Like I said before, Kennesaw is amazing, especially if you have children. The only thing I would say that's negative for you is if you intend on commuting to Conyers often. Our families still live in the area so we come down there quite often and the commute is brutal!!!

I live in California and seriously believe I have out grown here. I would highly appreciate any advice that may be given and if you could recommend a city with a great hospital, that'd be a bonus! I am in the education field, my husband is in the Motorcycle sale industry and my brother in law is a great Mechanic. We'd love to open up a business (Mexican restaurant or Body shop) so any positive advice is Higly welcomed and appreciated.

KENNESAW OR COBB COUNTY IN GENERAL. We lived south of Atlanta for our whole lives basically and because of the areas increasing crime and poor schools we did a ton of research and decided that Kennesaw seemed to have everything we were looking for. We moved here in January and we are not dissapointed!!! We have a 7 year old daughter, the schools are amazing! If you do a little research you'll see that Cobb County is one of, if not the highest ranking school systems in Georgia. Kennesaw has a very low crime rate as well.

When we visited Atlanta (from a small town, Moultrie just south west of Vidalia), we were warned by a number of tourist websites to check the area hotels for the rate of crime IN HOTEL HALLWAYS!! These are the extremely high-priced Buckhead hotels (a small area with TWO sister malls side by side, so pricy they offered valet parking and luxury lot parking). The area thugs roam the corridors mainly feeding off discarded room service trays and begging the hotel guests for change outside their rooms! Having to step over a passed out bum in front of your room is a real downer for your expensive stay.

What you must check for in ANY area is what percent of the population is participating in welfare. Sad to say, the higher the minority community, the higher the area is for crime and in Atlanta, despite a huge number of jobs and businesses, there are simply too many moving into the area for the welfare dole for them to keep up with.

BTW, we were in Moultrie, GA because my husband (orthopedic surgeon) had been asked to come because even this small community could not keep up with the load of welfare recipients showing up for free health care. Eventually, the hospital was going so broke, we could not stay. Sad...

Still, it's your family. To be warned is to be prepared!

Columbus, GA and Little Rock, Arkansas have similar populations and racial makeup, but Little Rock has a much higher crime and murder rate. Explain

Moultrie is not just southwest of Vidalia. Not even close.

I'm just gonna say. . . . I find it very hard to believe any of what you're saying. I mean all of it. They have a LOT of immigrants coming into that hospital, yes, but the rest of your statement. . . . its just bull**** from top to bottom.

I think Moultrie is a bit over 3 hours from Vidalia. It's much closer to Bainbridge.

If I had a choice I would live in near Atlanta, why?
Restaurants, Museums, Aquarium, Culture, Diversity, Shopping, Close to TN, the Carolinas. Its a much better location for all things. Top of the list would be Healthcare some of the finest. you don't want to drive an hour or two for high quality medical care.
