ATLANTA - The coronavirus pandemic, after depressing Georgia’s film industry during its early months, actually helped the state bounce back strong during the last fiscal year.

Movie and TV productions accounted for a record $4 billion in direct spending during fiscal 2021, which ended June 30, the Georgia Department of Economic Development reported Wednesday.

That came on the heels of a decline the previous fiscal year, when the economic impact of the pandemic drove down direct film industry spending in Georgia to $2.2 billion, down from $2.9 billion in fiscal 2019.

I cannot get an exact number on this, but the $4 billion in direct spending from the TV and Film production industry in Georgia in fiscal year 2021 looks to be extremely competitive with and potentially may have exceeded the amount of direct spending that the TV/Film production industry has generated in the state of California in fiscal year 2021.

It is possible that TV/Film production industry direct spending in Georgia has exceeded TV/Film production industry direct spending in California because there was a pandemic-induced slowdown in television and film production in the state during FY-2021 while TV and Film production in Georgia notably ramped up during much of the same time frame.

Elon Musk's Sister, Filmmaker Tosca Musk moves her base to Georgia

The lure of Georgia’s film tax credits has attracted Tosca Musk to move her production company to Georgia.

And that’s not all.

Tosca Musk, the younger sister of entrepreneurs Elon and Kimbal Musk, also is moving her permanent residence to south Fulton County and locating her production office in Palmetto..."

Exactly.

If you're serious about initiating widespread social/political change, boosting an industry that attracts overwhelmingly left-leaning workers to move into an area is the way to go. Not boycotting and limiting the inflow.

Yep Georgia will blue permanently eventually and all the Trumpettes will finally concede or move away. Didn't agree with the boycott in the first place especially the All-star game because it's actually hurting the residents that live in that area which is more Democractic in Metro Atlanta. They should have boycotted Augusta if they really wanted to boycott something.

Georgia is never going to be blue permanently, and this notion that "being blue/voting democrat = good" is part of the reason why the nation is in this mess in the first place. No party is better than the other - two sides of the same coin. They both have done some pretty nasty things and both like to fool their supporters into thinking they're on the correct side. We shouldn't vote based on political gang affiliation but I digress.

At the end of the day, the entertainment industry goes where the tax breaks are and at this point in time, North Georgia has a pretty damn robust one with numerous suppliers and infrastructure already in place. So couple that with the tax breaks and it makes sense to move to GA, regardless of politics. They've been in GA since the state was much more red, and was here when it voted blue in 1992, and even before that.

I would say maybe not permanently but it will definitely be more progressive than conservative, metro Atlanta already is and the majority of the state's population lives there. Unless other areas of the state start growing at the rate of metro Atlanta I don't see this changing. I agree both parties are generally terrible and dishonest but right now Republicans are winning in the craziness/terrible label with people like Trump and Majorie Taylor Greene.
