According to this, growth rate suggests Georgia moved into 7th place this year. North Carolina is close behind. Is that right?

I think we have about 10-20 years to go....

Ohio was just shy of 11.8 million people in the census.

Georgia has 10.7 million

If growth rate is maintained, the gap will be significantly narrowed by 2030, but not surpassed.

I know the feeling.

The big news this census was Georgia and North Carolina surpassed Michigan since 2010.

This has been known via estimates for a several years now.

No. In fact, Ohio still has about 1,000,000 more people than Georgia, and there's no guarantee that Georgia will pass Ohio in population by 2030 either, given the deceleration in its rate of growth compared to other recent decades.
