My husband will be a taking a new position with a medical group. His coverage area will be Tn. and Ga. We presently reside on the Gulf Coast (Baldwin County Alabama). We have children ages 14 and 12, and I teach in a top rated school. Education and safety are my TOP priorities. Will rent to begin with, so as to pick the right area for our family. Price range of up to $1900.00 is comfortable. Need best middle and high school recommendations.
Also, are Georgia schools on block system or 7 periods/ day schedule? Thanks for your responses in advance....

Each system in Georgia chooses block system, modified block, or 7 period system for themselves. Every system seems to be on the semester system, since I don't know of any on the quarter system (which I think is actually far superior at the high school level).

For easiest commutes for your husband to cover all of Georgia and Tennessee, I would recommend the Chickamauga-Fort Oglethorpe area. If you wish to teach in a public school, I don't have any knowledge of these. But the most reputable public schools would be further south, in the North Cobb (Kennesaw Mountain High) and East Cobb (Lassiter High and Walton High). But you are firmly in the metro area of Atlanta, and safety involves mostly knowing where to be and what time to be there as well as knowing where not to be and when not to be there! (Everyone who lives in a metro area uses this knowledge daily).

Wherever you move, you can visit private schools that will fit your personal tastes for your children's education but will not typically pay you the public school level of salary. You will need to factor in the private tuition in your budget and come down on your rent ranges probably. However, the rent ranges should be considerably cheaper in the Chickamauga-Fort Oglethorpe area.

By the way, the Chickamauga area is loaded with history and natural beauty. Kennesaw Mountain offers some of the same with a little more shopping and dining nearby (still metro, though).

Default Chickamauga

Chickamauga has a wonderful school system but it is very small (graduating class is typically around 100 students) and with small schools come fewer class choices. Ridgeland, Lakeview-FtOglethorpe, and Heritage are all larger schools in the N Ga area...the benefit of Ga schools is of course the Hope Scholarship...
