I am moving south and instead of continuing to overrun Tallahassee, I thought maybe to move to Georgia which is equally beautiful and within proximity. Do you think these areas would welcome me? Are they progressive in the least bit or diverse? Are they upbeat? Please share thoughts on where I could go that would be diverse or welcoming. TIA

Nope. Progressives tend not to fare so well in South GA. Not sure why you'd want to move somewhere that clashes with your own ideals.

I second 912904. South GA cities/towns are small. The largest city is Albany, which has a crime problem and is in economic decline (the worst urban decline in the state). Albany feels nuch smaller than Tallahassee, and Thomasville and Valdosta feel even smaller. It's not just that "progressives" might feel uncomfortable in S. GA -- so would quite a few political moderates too. If you have family there, or you are offered a well-paying job? That's a bit different. But all things being equal, better to go elsewhere.

And what exactly qualifies you to dispense this misinformation? I have several friends in Thomasville that lean progressive, and they love it.

Several friends does not equal the majority of residents in that county. There are several progressives in most every county in the US I would bet.

How do I know? Statistics and published data. I followed the science.

Thomasville is pleasant, to visit, and we have a friend who likes living in downtown Cairo. That said, these are very specific places that would test most non-Southern sensibilities. Plus you would be driving down to Tallahassee for many basics (and while it's a bit busy and isolated, I'm not sure Tally is "overrun" as a destination).

Well, it's certainly nothing like living in The Villages - where you are judged immediately upon arrival by which 'side' you are on. Dems/progressives are actually targeted and closed off socially there.

Some of their friends know, others don't have a clue. They find Thomasville to be welcoming and friendly.

As a South GA native myself, don’t do it. I’m from there and don’t feel that I fit in!!
