Currently living in S. Florida. Tierd of the hurricanes, cost of insurance, NYer's etc. Looking to relocated to a small town in Georgia. I telecommute, so length of commute is not a consideration. I would like to be within 60-90 minutes of Atlanta, just in case something happens to my current job. I grew up in a small town in MD, and want to get back to that way of life. Would like a house with some land (2+ acres). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick L.

Default Look at Ellijay, GA

Ellijay would be perfect for you. Beautiful area in the mountains with lots of creeks, streams, deer, etc., located about 90 minutes north of Atlanta. The town is growing and the ammenities are increasing with major retailers (Lowes, Walmart, etc.) moving into the area. I own property there and its a great place to invest in real estate. Let me know if I can help. Good luck!!

You're out of luck. There are NY'ers, NJ'ers everywhere. Expect to deal with us. By the way, by the time we get here, we're tamed down.

don't move to the north Atlanta suburbs if you're tired of northerners. I would go to the country south of metro Atlanta. Eveb places 2 hours north of the city are experiencing growth. Meriwether county is just south of Coweta and is still hicktown USA. Go far south if you want to be in the country. just beware of the heat.

Default Check out Lagrange

It's a good hour drive to the Atl airport. Check out their city website. Recreation. Movie theatre going up. Lagrange college (4 years school). Plenty of lots to buy. Near Newnan if you want some retail shopping. It's also not too far from Columbus, which is the 2nd largest city in GA. Has a large hospital and also a private academy. So there is still your mix of professionals and hicks.

Default Athens area?

I've been looking at the Athens area lately. Anyone have any thoughts?

I loved the Athens area. I lived in Commerce for several years and communted daily to Athens. Diverse due to the college students. Lots of really neat small business and unique cultural events. Close enough to ATL to make a nice afternoon of it. Nice architecture in Athens. Commerce was a smaller country town but is becoming more of a hwy stop/bed room community. I still have family there, and they love it.

Default Rome and North Ga mountains are nice

I live in Rome, 60 miles north west of Atlanta (Atl). Nice community, only 15 miles from Highway 75. Adairsville is nice but BOOMING. I suggest canvasing the North Ga area and then picking several communities to visit.

About 8 years ago, Rome was selected as one of the top ten places to raise a family.

Default Athens

Thanks for the info on Athens. I was hoping that's what it would be like, with the university there. Guess I need to plan a trip up there.

Thanks!

Hi Rick, have the perfect house for you. Beautiful log home on 14.41 acres near Sprewel State park located on the Flint River in West Central Ga. Small town conforts but close enough to your major cities, about 60 miles from Macon, Columbus & Altanta. $349,000
