I am soon to be retired. I have friends and family in the western and northern suburbs of ATL, but I think I want a less congested place to live, fewer traffic headaches, more community feeling...walkable.

My favorite hobbies are: walking/hiking - going to hear live music, clubs and bars (not interested in college bars)... sitting outside on the sidewalk having a nice restaurant meal. Cultural activities.

My politics are centrist to progressive.

Short List -

any walkable neighborhoods west and north of ATL or even in the city center maybe if I can leave my car parked.

Macon (love the music vibe)

Athens

What other cities or places am I overlooking?

Please make your suggestions... thanks!

Macon is a very nice upcoming town. Lots to do and walkable.
Smaller towns in the North don't offer as much, but can be pleasant for hiking, mountains and such.

Look around Lake Lanier on the north side, still close to everything Atlanta "less than an hour" & the mountains are an hour away also.
