Chris - I don't live there, but I just took a trip to Atlanta, and to me Peachtree City is far from downtown. I could be wrong, but it just felt far.

It is a great place to raise children as far I'm concerned. We have been here since 2000 and love it.
Because of redistricting and having a special needs child my kids have been at 5 of the elementary schools here(3 with one child and 2 with the other ) . We have been very happy with the teachers and staff that they have had on the elementary school level.

Just a note here - Please call it Peachtree City (and not just Peachtree ).
There are so many Peachtree 's here in the Atlanta Area that you will confuse people. People will think your talking about any where from Peachtree Street to Peachtree Plaza and so on and so on.

We moved to Peachtree City about a month ago and absolutely love it here...! It is a wonderfull place for children with lots of common playgrounds, many churches that offer weekday programms for kids and much more.

We don't have experience with the schools here yet, but we are told by basically everybody that Peachtree City has one of the best school systems in Georgia.

If you look for a home in the north-west part of Georgia, it shouldn't take you more then 20 minutes to get to ATL airport and 30-40 minutes to downtown ATL.

As far as we are concerned...this is one of the best places to live in Georgia (if you are not raising teens that want to enjoy the nightlife).

Peachtree City is about 30 miles from Atlanta. You can not get on I85 directly from Peachtree City so your commute is dependant on how you hit the traffic lights and traffic. It will take you 40 minutes or more to get to Altanta. The airport is only about 20 miles away and would take you about a half an hour, depending on traffic lights and traffic. With that being said, I should mention that I am not talking about a commute during rush hour. That is a whole different ball game.

They do have some of the best public schools in the state.

The golf cart community aspect is really neat, especially with today's gas prices.

Crime rates are very low.

It's considered 'close' to atlanta compared to other locations. If you get any closer to atlanta and youll be in rundown bungalows or high density housing. It's a nice community to review further in your efforts.

Peachtree City is the most wonderful place to live! We had to move because of a job change but still wish we could live there. I think the main problem with Peachtree City is that it is 30-40 minutes to downtown Atlanta (without traffic. . . ) If you don't work in Atlanta or have to go very often, then Peachtree City can't be beat. We are very fortunate to have been able to raise our children in this idyllic, family-oriented community.
