I don't live in the area and do not know for certain what type of fabric stores they might have but my impression was that you would not find a store with 'better fabrics'. Such a store might be found in Savannah, about an hour away, IIRC but when I lived there I didn't see or hear of one.
I'm in Atlanta and I'm certain there are such stores here--about 5 hrs from Brunswick.

If you plan your projects, yes. I know some people shop for fabric online.
There could be a good fabric store in the Brunswick/St. Simon's area but finding it?
If you are visiting the area the Visitor's Information Center or the Library might have such information.
