So back to the original post because I too am african american moving to Alpharetta in November and would just feel more "comfortable" in a church service of other African americans, blacks or whatever term deemed more appropriate.

What other African american churches are in Alpharetta?

A majority of the ladies in my sorority chapter attend Zion MBC in Roswell.
Zion Missionary Baptist Church

My current pastor presided over St. James UMC in Alpharetta prior to coming to our church:
St. James United Methodist Church (http://www.stjamesumc.org/current/index_2.html - broken link)

I hope this helps!

I was originally Licensed and a member of Pleasant Hill and the people there are very nice. I enjoyed being on the ministerial staff andPastor Strickland does a good job...I simply moved and now I am on a mission to start an AME church in that area because I switched from Baptist to AME about 6 years ago. I just love the history and structure of the AME church. Pleasant Hill has grown tramendously and I still go by from time to time. Again though I am definitely looking for some people who want to work to start a new congregation.

Thats odd. I have never heard of anyone starting a AME church, they are where they are and the ministers are assigned to a congragation, you dont must start an AME Church

It is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning, the same hour when many are standing to sing: "In Christ There Is No East Nor West."

and some of those double standards revolve around racial prejudice.

Segregation is a two-way street, and a double-edged sword. Some onus should (IMO) be put on minority groups to step forward and join majority society on their own. It isn't just the responsibility of the "white man" to help everyone else integrate. They need to take some responsibility.

Some do. The Somali community in the Twin Cities, for example, is moving quickly already.

I'm not convinced, however, that segregated churches help the situation much w.r.t. to racial relations in this county.

My two cents, at any rate...
It's obvious, you haven't been in the situation of integrating a white church. Hell, most of the splits of all the different denominations is due to integration/separation issues in the churches.

Most of the time, the members are fine until too many "others" arrive and membership shifts. You can join and go in as "brethren in the lord" and they will still leave the church so this issue is not just up to minorities but to both parties to grow up and love each other just as Christ loves the church.

Time and time again in my church which has conferences, the majority white churches have turned majority black over the years because the white members leave and seek majority white congregations again and abandoning the "mixed" church over minor issues (mostly due with music/hymns).

Its sad and disgusting that this behavior happens with people who claim to love Jesus but what can you do about it...
