My family and I are relocating to the North GA Mountain area (looking at anywhere between Jasper to Toccoa (west-east) and as far north as TN state line.

I am a Human Resources professional and my husband is an Executive Chef/General Manager in fine dining.

Can anyone give us ideas where we can find employment/jobs in this area? The national/international job boards do not have much and I know (being in the "business") most small towns and communities outside the metro area do not use them. Most go by "word of mouth" for opportunities.

Both of us are willing to commute up to 30-40 miles.

Thanks for any and all help!
Lisa

I hope you're willing to commute more than 30-40 miles, as that'll be the absolute minimum to get you near any decent employment in those fields. There aren't many companies up that way large enough to require a dedicated HR manager, and there aren't all than many restaurants that would have an "executive chef"- especially if you're looking for the salary that normally comes along with the title of "executive chef".

From Toccoa, your closest choice would be Gainesville, and that's around 45 miles and it's exactly going to be brimming with opportunities. From Jasper it wouldn't surprise me if you have to get down around Marietta to find much, and again, that's 45 miles. If you're looking further north than those cities, you may want to consider getting closer to Chattanooga and see what you can find there.
