I am a 52y.o. gay man moving from Atlanta to Brunswick area hopefully by end of summer 09. I've visited there a few times with gay friends and have never encountered anything problematic. We were not flaunting our sexuality by any means but I feel sure most people recognized that we were gay. I have never felt fearful there because of sexuality and am excited about the relocation there ! It goes without saying, always be wise and careful regardless of anything !

I've always wondered if a person is 'bi', do they go nuts at the mall?

Since you wouldn't be far from Savannah or Jacksonville, FL (45 minutes to an hour each way for BOTH) you might enjoy it there. As mentioned earlier, Brunswick is surprisingly gay friendly but since you're smack dab in the middle of the bible belt gays tend to keep a low profile.

To be honest, Brunswick isn't really a place I would recommend anyone to move. I have lived there for 5 years (it seems like once you get to this small town it's hard to get out) and it is VERY slow paced and boring. Thank GOD I'm finally moving since my husband is in the Army now. There isn't much to do in the area other than go to the movies, go bowling, go out to eat or hang out with friends (even then you end up at eachother's houses since there isn't really much to do). The mall is smaller than our Wal*Mart and there really isn't a night life. You would need to know someone there already to meet other people unless you go bar hopping every night.

St. Simon's Island and Jekyll Island are no more than 30 minutes away and they are both very touristy areas. As far as living there it is definitely pricey. The best things are the beaches there but if you're used to clear blue water get ready because we're talking Georgia clay so the water is more of a green-brown color (but it is clean). You will not be able to see into the water AT ALL.

Also, as far as living arrangments there are inexpensive places to live but trust me you do not want to live in these places. They are not in the best of locations. Look at spending atleast $700+ in rent if you want to live in a nicer home/apartment in a good neighborhood.

This is one of those places that is fun for the first couple of months but after that you get tired of it since you run out of things to do and places to go.

Brunswick is good to visit but no so much to live.

Thumbs up Brunswick/SSI Georgia is very Gay Friendly

Brunswick/ SSI (Golden Isles) is a very gay friendly place I have lived here almost my entire life and it's great! I live out in Brookman a small community outside Brunswick City limits on a farm. I love the country and even the rednecks here are just as nice as they can be. You just got to learn how to take a joke and roll with the punches and cut up with them and they will cut up with I right back. Just get to know their kinda humor. I moved to Baltimore when I was 18 and a few months later I moved right back to Brunswick. It is one if those places that grows on ya and no matter if u move away u are more than likely to move right back. Great place!! Anymore questions feel free to ask away. ) #ta
