My husband might be transferred to Mableton. If you had $150k to spend where would you live within 30 minutes of there--the closer the better?
Criteria:
SAFE neighborhood
Good schools (I have a highschool age child and a 4th grader)
Not too old of a house (no major repairs necessary)
Prefer trees and land over more crowded areas
Prefer neighborhoods which don't have cookie-cutter houses
And since I'm sick of the issue in Memphis, the less I have to deal with racial tension, the better (this doesn't mean I don't want to have black neighbors, I just don't want to always hear about race at every turn)
Note: We are white, conservative, evangelicals with 3 children (1 in college) and we love the outdoors, if that makes any difference!
I know I am asking a lot of a house for $150k, but I'd appreciate any input you can give. Thanks to all who help.

Why not live in Mableton? Seriously, the northern half of Mableton is quite nice. The southern half of Smyrna is also a possible option.

Anything north of Veterans Memorial Highway should be safe, and many places south of that road are fine as well.
