Well, it's not fair to go off land size or population solely by themselves, its a combination of both of them, density and amenities as well.

If you go by population density... then Savannah is second after Atlanta.. if Savannah and Chatham county were ever to consolidate ..like Augusta and Athens did, then Savannah would easily be the second largest city with around 250,000 ppl.

The bottom line is- the population of a city is what is inside of the city limits. Period. Not nearby, not in the county, not what was once there or may be there soon, but in the city limits at the time of the population count. The things some of you do to justify population are hysterical....reminds me of those who buy fast cars or big trucks to compensate for lack of "male parts"!

City populations are really meaningless in this context. Metro populations mean much more. I mean really, Atlanta has a city population of 519,000 but the traffic of 5 million. 519,000 doesn't really shed any real light on Atlanta.
