One place I might suggest that is only about 45 minutes west of Dallas is Carrollton, where you will be out of the metro area. It seems to be a very family-friendly place, with Carroll County probably having around 75,000 people. But there are proposals for huge 20,000 home subdivisions within the south end of the county.

Columbus is a nice town to live in we have some really good schools the number 1 high school in the state is here. Its a growing town and i personally work at a daycare so I know first hand that we have good childcare as well.

Pooler/Port Wenworth, Georgia is the best city in Georgia, they are two different cities, but are within 2 minutes of each other, they both have great education, crime ranks amoung some of the lowest in Georgia. Both are great all around cities, and have close proximity to Savannah without having the crime, and low education, but close enough for a night on the town, or great activities, such as concerts, and other major events. Pooler/Port Wentworth both have great cost of livings, and houses are some of the most affordable in Georgia.

jazzrose, The University adds party life to the mix. Athens is a town of renters during school and kind of dead during summer. The farther out you get from the Atlanta area, the more the schools and commute are worse. North Fulton, Gwinnett County, Cobb County, all these have better school systems and better quality of life. Pick an area and do research online...Bill
