I'm considering relocating to PA, or MD, or GA and don't know much about the regions. I live in MA and wife wants to move the family a little more south. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a town in which the houses are affordable as in $200,000 with at least an acre.. also this town needs to be no more the 45 minutes away from affluent communities aka million dollar homes also with plenty of new construction that is actually selling. I'd like to live in a town with a good school system and little to no crime... haha is this possible? are there places out there? Let me know what you know.. THANK YOU

PA tax structure is pretty good. Low state income taxes, historical interests.
GA? Been there, won't go back.
MD? Sounds pricey, but culture should be good.

Unless you have very good reason to move, don't. If you are earning a living where you are, stay. The economy here is terrible. Crime is going up and up. Schools stink. Race relations are strained thanks to our incredibly silly legislature.

I think maybe Maryland may be your best bet workwise...especially closer in to the DC suburbs of Montgomery County and Northern Virginia... construction is still going on... and the recession doesn't seem to be hurting DC area as bad. But as far as construction, its a difficult racket because you have the constractors who will hire illegals and pay next to nothing.. If you are a contractor its hard to compete with the ones that use illegal labor.

the construction business is recovering in my area of georgia, but the best place for you in georgia would be atlanta or kingsland/st. mary's.

there are plenty of affluent neighborhoods in atlanta, and kingsland is between sea island, ga, and jacksonville, fl.

Georgia is really a good fit for someone like you, because the cost of living is low, and the cost of your services can be high.

high-end finish carpenters generally aren't competing with mexicans.
