Sad news. Earth Fare has plans to close the Athens, Augusta and Greenville store by next summer unless their sales pick up. We need to start shopping there more. Organic food is so much better than that crap they sell at Kroger and Publix. Wake up Augusta and Athens! It will be a shame if these stores close.

The Athens store does very well during the school year. Two months out of the year should not hurt them that much. The other 10 months should carry them well. Are there any articles or facts to back this up?

I used to think the same thing about organic foods, but I find that I can buy them just as easily at Kroger or Publix, and usually for less $$ and with a better selection. And I get to buy all the other non-organic stuff at the same time, which saves me a trip. I've never been to an EarthFare store, but if it's anything like a Trader Joes or Whole Foods, it's no bargain and nothing to write home about (unless you need cheese made from the milk of Mongolian mountain goats or something).

Whole Foods is unbelievably overpriced.. as are most organic grocery stores. In this economy, people are having to save as much money as possible and cannot afford to overspend on groceries. There is no scientific proof that these organic foods are any better for you. I'd suggest visiting your local farmers market instead if you want to shop green. Produce bought at Farmers markets is generally produced locally, not shipped from the other side of the continent.
If these organic markets want to make it in this tough economy then they are going to have to bring their prices down.. they are pretty much targeted at yuppies with high disposable incomes.. and that is a shrinking demographic in this economy.

Something tells me this isn't right. I know people that work at the EarthFare store in Greenville.

Ah Ha! The Columbia store is not listed. I guess we take our healthy eating more seriously here.

I think the one in Augusta is in trouble.
#1 They built it in a bad location.. not on one of the major hwys with high visibility.
#2 Fresh market is in a more visible and central location and has a more loyal customer base as they have been in the Augusta area for over 20 years.

They built it in a bad location.. a previous grocery store that opened around that location failed as well.. bad visibility not on a main hwy. Fury's Ferry is not a main hwy like Washington Rd. If the other stores are in danger of closing then there is probably some systemic problem with the company, probabkly the fact that as many people are not buying overpriced organic food.

Lol Winn Dixie closed on Furys Ferry. How long ago was that? Like 5 years ago.

The op still should be able to provide some facts atleast? Wouldn't somebody from Augusta, Athens, or Greenville. Heard about this by now?
