Hello,

I am looking for some very safe and nice neighborhoods that is close to UGA and have nearby trails (either in a park or on a trail system) to walk on. I am female and young single, I like single houses (expense isn't a problem) with lost of trees and space.

Also, are there neighborhoods that one can walk to the university?

Thanks!

There are several areas in Athens where there are plenty of walking trails, with trees. The 5 points area, Memorial Park is right in that area, plus, there are plenty of people walking/jogging in the area. The State Botanical Garden is great for walking in. There are several other areas with condos, apartments, townhomes and single family homes available for rent or purchase. As for walking to the university, there are a couple of neighborhoods you can walk there from, it all depends upon how far you want to walk.

if money is not an issue, then the previous poster is correct, 5 points. period. it has proximity to the UGA athletic fields and it has trails, pond et al. u would need to drive out to the botanical gardens but that is just several miles or so. of course in 5 points you can walk the UGA campus.

safety is relative. we do have a "thug" population here. you can never take your personal safety for granted anywhere here. we are no different than the rest of society. bear in mind that around 25% of our population is under the poverty line and around 50% of our students drop out of high school. hint.

i do see young women walking alone and wonder what it is they are thinking particularly during hours of darkness. i would not recommend going out alone after dark.

my 2 cents.
