Hot and humid, and no it's not any worse than anywhere else it's just a longer amount of time. Really summer down here is our Winter. We kinda retreat indoors in August and September, our hottest months. Winter is GREAT! And bugs are of the large variety and there's more of them but they go away in the winter. Orientation of your home is key as whatever side faces West gets incredibly hot.

I moved to Statesboro about 4 years ago and anyone who says that the gnats aren't that bad is crazy. I love, love, love the proximity of the beach and the fact that the weather (when gnat free) from about Oct to April is beautiful and warm enough for my kids to play outside. However, when the temps rise to "gnat" temperature which is some of spring and much of fall, they are absolutely terrible. My kids cannot even stand to play outside for extended periods of time because their sweaty little heads (eyes and ears in particular) are swarmed with those nasty little things. You have to constantly blow so they don't get in your nose or mouth. If by the water, they aren't nearly as bad. So, summer time outside is spent mostly by a pool for the kids. The trade off is, more overall time in the "off season" playing outside. Also, living near a cotton field seems to make it even worse!
