I'm considering visiting this area. I like the proximity to Savannah (an hour away) and that it seems to be unspoiled and not as visited and developed as the St. Simons Island area. Can anyone give me a feel for what this area is like? The photos I've seen are beautiful. Are there the usual gated developments going on like everywhere else? Or, is this area still pretty laid back. ANY information would be welcomed.

I would say that your assessment is a good one in that it is quite remote and unspoiled. My grandfather had a fishing cabin on a bluff near there and I have always loved the area.
There are some developments here and there in the area but the basic feel of it has changed little in decades. To me it is a perfect place to get away from it all.

It is off of the beaten path, but within an hour to Savannah and Brunswick. There is a large amount of information regarding things to do and see if you Google Harris Neck, McIntosh County and Darien, GA. I consider the area to be a diamond in the rough and hope that it remains unspoiled. The economic downturn took its toll on residential develeopment. Hopefully it will offer the County an opportunity to institute controls that will promote economic opportunity but not spoil all of the positive aspects of the area once the economy turns around.
